The mystery of Trump's Twitter mentions and where he finds those awful retweets

Donald Trump loves to tweet, this much is known. But he also has a thing for occasionally retweeting random users and that's when he gets into hot water. On Wednesday, Trump faced wide, global condemnation for retweeting anti-Muslim propaganda from the deputy leader of one of Britain's most extreme far-right groups, Britain First.   SEE ALSO: Trump Twitter notifications have completely ruined my year It was just the latest example of Trump retweeting inflammatory content. He's also been criticized for retweeting a Mussolini quote , a Neo-Nazi named "White Genocide, and the infamous figure behind the " Pizzagate " conspiracy.  Read more... Amber Tamblyn has no time for male ‘redemption’ in her latest 'NYT' op-ed

Actress Amber Tamblyn is back with more insight on the sexual harassment and assault scandal hitting Hollywood hard. In her latest New York Times op-ed on Thursday, Tamblyn, who wrote about women coming forward with stories about sexual assault in September, jumps into the discussion about forgiving men accused of sexual misconduct, only just as they were finally starting to be called out for their abuses of power. In the op-ed, Tamblyn argues that it's too soon for that forgiveness conversation. "Why do we need to talk about the redemption of men when we are right in the middle of the salvation of women?" writes Tamblyn. "Not even the middle, but the very beginning?" Read more... Google's secret weapon against Amazon has been here all along

Google might soon reverse one of its biggest hardware decisions. The company is reportedly thinking about bringing Nest , and its portfolio of smart home devices, back into Google, in an effort to beat out Amazon's increasing dominance in the space. SEE ALSO: Google finally fixed its horrendous excuse for a burger emoji The potential move, which was reported by The Wall Street Journal , would bring Nest closer to Google's other hardware teams. If it goes through, and it's not clear if or when it will, the move would essentially reverse the company's 2015 decision to separate Nest from Google and instead put the smart home gadget makers under parent company Alphabet. Police and communities can find themselves without a way to communicate. This startup thinks it can help.

When Kona Shen moved back to the United States in 2014 after a few years in Haiti, she returned to a country grappling with police brutality. Eric Garner was killed in a police officer's chokehold that July and Michael Brown was shot and killed by an officer in Ferguson, Missouri in August. "I came back to the U.S. around the same time as Mike Brown and Eric Garner, and my cofounder is from St. Louis, right next to Ferguson, and he had seen everything firsthand growing up," Shen said. "We had the luxury of figuring out what to do about it."  Shen knew her next project had to be something that would help. While starting graduate school at Stanford, she joined up with fellow student Mustafa Abdul-Hamid to figure out a way to communicate to police departments how their communities really feel and to help communities have their voices heard.  Read more... Education-minded deer slides its way into a Mississippi school

Everyone deserves an education after all. Even if they live in in the forest. A deer slid its way into a school's hallway in Enterprise, Mississippi, on Wednesday. It must've been late for its 8 a.m. home room class.  SEE ALSO: The Weirdest Freak Accidents in Zoo History The mammal seemed very unprepared to show up to school and tried its best to leave as fast as possible...slipping and falling in the process. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Already, skipping class just as it begins its  educational journey. "It was pretty hilarious to see how the students responded and the funny expressions on people's faces. I've been the principal at this school for 10 years and it's never happened before," said Enterprise Elementary School Principal Steven Gunn to WTOK . Read more... Alyssa Milano vs. Ajit Pai is the net neutrality fight we need right now

A quiet resignation has begun to set in among net neutrality proponents as Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai marches forward with his plan. But Alyssa Milano is having none of it. The actress and advocate has emerged as one of the loudest and most aggressive voices in support of net neutrality. In this role as champion of net neutrality, Milano's accomplished something few others have: She's gotten Pai to engage, despite him mostly ignoring any and all criticism in the past eight months. SEE ALSO: The annotated version of FCC Chairman Ajit Pai's WSJ op-ed on net neutrality Milano has been steadily banging the drum for net neutrality in recent weeks, primarily on Twitter to her 3.3 million followers. And she hasn't been shy in going after Pai who, as the chairman, has spearheaded the effort to have the FCC repeal the strong net neutrality rules put in place under the Barack Obama administration.  Read more... To obtain funding, scientists may be avoiding use of the term 'climate change' in research proposals

Climate scientists may be self-censoring in order to get their work funded through government grants. New data released by NPR this week shows that grants and research proposals from the National Science Foundation (NSF) using the term "climate change" in their title or summary have dropped by 40 percent this year when compared to 2016.  SEE ALSO: Shocking no one, the EPA's Scott Pruitt denies findings of new climate science report That's only 302 grants using the term this year compared to 520 last year, NPR reported.  And according to researchers, that reduction might have everything to do with a political climate that's hostile to their work.
